What Is a Memorial Diamond?

A memorial diamond is a laboratory-grown diamond created using carbon extracted from a personal source. Floral Jewelry creates memorial diamonds from human hair, baby hair, and pet fur using High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) technology. These are real diamonds with essentially the same chemical, physical, and optical properties as mined diamonds.

Also known as life diamonds, they can honor a loved one, celebrate a child's first milestones, or preserve the bond with a pet. The personal meaning comes from the source of the carbon and the story behind the finished piece.

Accepted Samples

Human hair, baby hair, and pet fur.

Growth Method

High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT).

Typical Overall Timeline

Approximately 2-3 months from sample shipment to finished Jewelry delivery.

Memorial Diamonds for People, Babies, and Pets

  • Diamonds from human hair: Create a keepsake to remember someone special or celebrate a meaningful relationship during their lifetime.
  • Baby hair diamonds: Preserve the significance of a first haircut in a piece of jewelry. Our baby hair memorial diamond guide explains sample handling and traceability.
  • Pet memorial diamonds: Use a pet's fur to create a personal reminder of the companionship you share or remember.

How We Turn Hair into a Memorial Diamond

  1. Consultation and sample preparation: Confirm the target diamond, jewelry design, budget, and timing. Collect, seal, and label the agreed quantity of hair or fur before shipping.
  2. Registration and carbon purification: The laboratory assigns the sample a unique identification number and extracts carbon through high-temperature carbonization and purification.
  3. Growth cell assembly: Carbon powder derived from the biological sample is pressed into a dense carbon disc and assembled into a labeled growth cell with a diamond seed and metal catalyst.
  4. HPHT diamond growth: Controlled heat and pressure allow carbon to crystallize into a rough diamond.
  5. Cutting, polishing, and testing: The rough diamond is cleaned, cut, and polished, then submitted for gemological testing and the agreed laboratory report.
  6. Jewelry setting and delivery: After design approval, the diamond is set in precious metal. The completed piece undergoes a final quality check before shipment.

Choose Your Diamond and Jewelry Setting

Plan the diamond and its setting together so the finished piece suits how you want to wear it.

  • Carat weight: Discuss your preferred size, such as 0.3 ct, 0.5 ct, or 1 ct, and confirm the agreed specifications before production.
  • Shape: Explore round, oval, pear, or cushion designs. The final cutting plan depends on the rough diamond and the agreed target.
  • Color: Confirm your preference in advance. Hair color does not determine diamond color, and the exact result depends on growth conditions.
  • Setting and metal: Discuss a ring, pendant, or other suitable design in 14K gold, 18K gold, or platinum.

Memorial Diamond Timeline and Pricing

Floral Jewelry's typical overall timeline is approximately 2-3 months from sending your sample to receiving the finished jewelry. This includes sample handling, carbon preparation, diamond growth, cutting, testing, setting, and delivery. Larger diamonds, growth results, design approvals, and shipping can affect the schedule. Confirm your project timeline before planning around an anniversary or other special date.

Memorial diamond pricing depends on the agreed carat weight, shape, color requirements, and jewelry setting. The metal and design also affect the finished-piece quotation. Before ordering, confirm which services, laboratory reports, and delivery charges are included.

Sample Traceability and Diamond Reports

Sample identification and gemological testing serve different purposes. Your sample label, order reference, and production records document the handling of the personal material. Photographs or video of relevant stages can be requested, with the scope agreed before production.

A gemological report identifies and describes the finished diamond within the issuing laboratory's reporting scope. Confirm the laboratory and report details before ordering, and check any girdle inscription against the report on receipt. A standard diamond grading report alone does not verify whose hair supplied the carbon; sample traceability requires separate production records.
